Bridgeport Youth Wrestling located in Bridgeport WV
We operate under The City of Bridgeport Parks and Recreation. Through their efforts and a partnership with the local school we are able to have a strong foundation for our team, a location to practice, and mats to practice on.
Bridgeport Youth Wrestling was started by Kevin Stanley with a desire to see the program grow and restore the Bridgeport High School Wrestling Team. Kevin partnered up with Bridgeport Parks and Recreation and formed a team. Practices started in the Benedum Civic Center on tumble mats, shortly after that a wrestling mat was purchased for the program through Bridgeport Parks and Rec. The following year Bridgeport High School revived its Wrestling program that had been dropped in 1980. A complementary relationship was formed; use of the mats and the field house became shared times worked out for each program to practice. Later in time a Bridgeport Middle School Wrestling Team entered the scene. Kevin Stanley, Head Coach until his youngest son entered high school, lead a very successful youth team. He is a great coach and Bridgeport High School Wrestling is very lucky to have him, and Kevin's desire to see his sons wrestle thru high school has been fulfilled. Kevin will always be at the Heart of Bridgeport Youth Wrestling, and is always welcome to attend/ coach practice and tournaments.
Thank you Kevin, you are wrestlers' role model and hero. You have given so much.
Thank you Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, you run in the background setting everything in motion and making this program possible.
